“My friend started seeing a Chiropractor and had to visit 3 times per week for months. Will I have to go so often?”

Most core reasons for our health and spinal problems stem from years and years of stress and strain. Sometimes these issues were caused by your birth! Your amazing body will adapt to an unbalanced structure. Muscles will grow unevenly. Specialized nerves called proprioceptors become programmed to hold incorrect patterns. You body will attempt to protect itself by laying down scar tissue and, in more advanced cases, even new bone growth in the form of spurs. This, in turn, damages the nerves in the affected area; nerves which affect your organs, your immunity, your mood… ultimately every single cell in your body!

The good news is that your body can heal! In order to achieve permanent healing, your body must literally be re-programmed. Damaged tissue, muscles and nerves must re-grow. The body of the average healthy adult can reproduce muscle and connective tissue (including the discs of the spine) in approximately 8 weeks. Nervous tissue takes around a year to grow! If you are not in otherwise good health, this process can take longer. Regular adjustments during this time of re-growth are often necessary to ensure that your body is in the proper alignment as it regenerates.

Every-body is different. Depending on your health level and your lifestyle, you may heal faster than someone else. Our technique and time that we take to address your whole body speeds up the healing process; resulting in less needed visits. We will customize your care plan for your own needs and monitor your progress, decreasing your visits when your body becomes more stable.

Our goal is your permanent health! Once you have achieved a full recovery from your original condition (if you had one!), a regular monthly check up and adjustment will keep your body strong and feeling great. Yes, is does require commitment… both from you and from us. A healthy life for you and your family is worth it.

What if I do not like getting “cracked”?

It may be comforting to learn that the “cracking” sound that we associate with a structural adjustment is simply caused by the release of air and tension which accumulates in a fixated joint. Your spine is protected by many layers of muscles and ligaments. A skilled Chiropractor applies a very gentle force in a very specific direction to release that tension. If you are still hesitant to receive a deeper adjustment, we will listen to your needs and concerns. We can use a variety of gentle methods to adjust and bring ease to the spine and nervous system. Drop table, passive motion, SOT or pelvic blocking and “Activator” methods can be used to give effective adjustments with less force.

I am pregnant, is it safe to get adjusted?

YES! Please see further information on our Articles page as this is one of our areas of advanced specialty. It is probably is the most important time for you and your baby to be in alignment and will provide a safer and more comfortable birth process.

Once I get adjusted, will I always have to come back?

Adjustments do not create a situation where your body becomes dependent on them. If anything, the adjustments will help your innate ability to adapt to stress improve. It is true that your body responds to the law of supply and demand. Much like exercise, if you do it somewhat consistently, you will have more benefit. A healthy nervous system can also detect imbalances easier. Our regular patients get used to feeling great and know when they need a “tune up”. Even when you are free from “symptoms”, a regular monthly check up and adjustment is great preventative medicine and will keep your body strong and feeling great.

My child is fussy and sick often. How old can a child be before he/she can get adjusted?

Babies can be safely adjusted immediately after birth! Please see our article on Chiropractic for Kids as this is one of our areas of advanced specialty . The technique used on infants and children is very different from the care given to an adult; usually only requiring non-force “acupressure” type adjustments. Cranial-sacral therapy is also very effective for all types of childhood conditions, including cranial compression caused by birth trauma.

I have a serious injury and been recommended to have surgery, how can you help me?

Often times, surgery is recommended because of injuries to the discs between the vertebrae of the spine. A swollen or herniated disc can put pressure on the surrounding nerve root resulting in acute pain. The discs are made of connective tissue and have a high water content. Depending on the degree of injury, the disc can re-absorb and heal naturally once motion is restored. We practice a passive motion and flexion/traction technique which restores motion and creates the space for the disc to heal. Many times very intense conditions can be relieved with gentle chiropractic care. It is always best to try all options before resorting to more invasive procedures. Even in the case in which one has had extensive spinal surgery, establishing motion and alignment can help the healing process and prevent futher degeneration.
